The Boulder County Four Mile Canyon Fire Mix was designed and provided to Pawnee Buttes Seed Inc by Boulder County Open Space.

Oats - Cool season, annual, cereal grass. It is fast germinating and establishes quickly.

Bottlebrush Squirreltail - Native to the U.S., and is a cool season, early seral, short-lived, perennial bunchgrass.

Slender Wheatgrass - Important, native cool season, short-lived perennial bunchgrass. Early seral species found in northern Great Plains, northern Rocky Mountains and Intermountain regions.

Sandberg Bluegrass - Native to western U.S., Rocky Mountain, and northern Great Plains region. Short, cool season, bunchgrass.

The Dry Native Mountain Mix is adapted to dry mountain conditions and useful for restoration, forage and wildlife. It is also adapted for reclamation of roads, trails, pipelines and home-sites. The sites are generally shallow soils, low precipitation and often south facing slopes.   The elevation ranges from 7,000 to over 9,000 feet.  The average annual precipitation is 8 to 16 inches and most of the moisture falls as snow in the winter. Much of the area is grass and shrubs with valley bottoms, aspen and cottonwood.

Nodding Brome - Native cool season, perennial bunchgrass found in Rocky Mountain region.

The Foothills Native mix is made up with grasses that are adapted to medium textured soils, as well as, some of the shallower soils found in the transitional area between the grasslands of the plains and the forest of the mountains along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The Foothills Mix is used for conservation, restoration, cover, forage, wildlife, and for homeowner lots in the foothills area.  Elevation ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 feet and the average annual precipitation is 8 to 20 inches. 

Indian Ricegrass - Native widely distributed, cool season, medium-sized bunchgrass.  Commonly found with other grasses in semiarid western U.S. 

Little Bluestem - Native to U.S. and widely distributed across the country.  Primary species of midwestern prairies.  Warm season, long-lived, perennial bunchgrass.

Blue Grama - Major native species of the western Great Plains and the Southwest.  One of the most widely distributed of all native grasses.  A warm season, perennial, open sod forming short grass.

Yellow Indiangrass - Native to approximately eastern two-thirds of U.S. including the Great Plains states.  Warm season, bunching sod former.

Switchgrass - Native to all areas of U.S. except California and Pacific Northwest.  Primary species of the Midwest Tall Grass Prairie.  Medium tall, warm season, long-lived, patchy sod grass.

It is also adapted for reclamation of roads, trails, pipelines and home-sites. The sites are generally good soils, higher precipitation, and often north facing slope.  The elevation ranges from 6,000 to over 10,000 feet.  The average annual precipitation is 20 to 30 inches and most of the moisture falls as snow in the winter. Much of the area is forested with pine trees.  However, there are many open areas that support grasses and shrub vegetation.

Blue Wildrye - Native to the U.S. and of primary importance to the north-central and western United States.  Rapid developing, short-lived, cool season perennial bunchgrass.

Streambank Wheatgrass - Native of western U.S., northern Great Plains and western Intermountain region of the U.S.  Drought-tolerant, cool season, long-lived, perennial sod former.

Prairie Junegrass - Native to western North America.  Slender, cool season, tufted perennial bunchgrass.

Tufted Hairgrass - Native to the mountains in western U.S., but also found from East Coast to West Coast in northern latitudes.  Long-lived, cool season, tufted perennial bunchgrass.

Alpine Timothy - Native, short grass, densely tufted, perennial, erect or decumbent at base, with a few rhizomes.  Grows in the cooler and higher regions of the western US.

Spike Trisetum - Densely tufted, cool season, perennial, native to the Rocky Mountains.  Occurs in moist meadows.

Alpine Bluegrass - Short, erect, densely tufted grass with fibrous roots.  Native to mountainous areas.  Grows in the cooler regions and higher elevation regions of the U.S.
